About the Speakers
Charles Carmakal is one of FireEye Mandiant’s leading incident response experts. He oversees a team that has helped over a thousand organizations respond to complex security breaches orchestrated by foreign governments, organized criminals, and political hacktivists. Mr. Carmakal has 20 years of experience helping organizations become more resilient to cyber attacks.
Mr. Carmakal has significant experience helping Fortune 500 organizations build and enhance security programs to combat advanced attacks. He frequently provides strategic security guidance to executive leadership and boards of directors.
Mr. Carmakal has conducted television and print interviews by media organizations including 60 Minutes, CNBC, Wall Street Journal, Reuters, Bloomberg, New York Times, Washington Post, NBC News, and Fox Business.
Prior to joining Mandiant, Mr. Carmakal served in various leadership roles within PwC in the US and Australia. He received Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Decision and Information Sciences from the University of Florida.
Supervisory Special Agent Jonathan Holmes has been with the FBI since 2008. He is currently assigned to the FBI Cyber Division’s Major Cyber Crimes Unit (MCCU), where he assists ransomware case teams and helps develop the FBI’s strategy to combat ransomware. Prior to assignment in MCCU, SSA Holmes investigated criminal and national security Cyber investigations during his tenure in both the FBI’s Milwaukee and Los Angeles Divisions. While in the Los Angeles Division SSA Holmes supervised an FBI Cyber criminal squad assigned to the United States Secret Service USSS Electronic Crimes Task Force ECTF. SSA Holmes also served as an acting assistant Legal attaché in Sofia, Bulgaria, assisting with Cyber investigations in Bulgaria, Albania and North Macedonia in 2015 and 2016. SSA Holmes holds a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering.
Teresa Tonthat is serving as Texas Children’s Chief Technology and Security Officer, responsible for strategic guidance over the digital experiences for the largest pediatric hospital in the nation. Teresa is a strategic business leader overseeing 230 technologists focused on enabling digital technologies, digital foundation, customer service quality, biomedical engineering, IoT, compliance and assurance, security incident response, and cyber risk mitigation.
Thomas Millar has served in CISA for 10 years, working to strengthen the agency’s information sharing capabilities, increasing the level of public, private and international partner engagement, and supporting initiatives to improve information exchange by both humans and machines, such as the standardization of the Traffic Light Protocol and the development of the Structured Threat Information eXpression. Prior to his cybersecurity career, he served as a linguist with the 22nd Intelligence Squadron of the United States Air Force. Mr. Millar holds a Master’s of Science from the George Washington University and is a Distinguished Graduate of the National Defense University’s College of Information and Cyberspace.
